As a leading packer and shipper, Martin's and Thomas Fresh have top of the line equipment to ensure they meet all customer needs. Equipment is specially designed to ensure quick and exact sorting.
Softer products, such as citrus, are fed directly from the bin conveyor to the grading line. Computerized sorters and infrared systems provide total control over the sorting process. Bananas and tomatoes are brought in green, then gassed, graded and distributed from Martin's warehouse. Custom packing and e-grading services are available.
Equipment for the warehouses was built in Germany by Gillenkirch, one of Europe's finest manufacturers of produce packaging equipment. Gillenkirch machines offer a variety of advantages. Clients have a choice of three different packing bags: poly, mesh and vexar. All three bags run on the same machine, with more convenience and less cost. The machines are accurate to approximately five grams on any single package. Shrinkage rates are less than one percent and much less than most packing machines.
Martin's equipment packs a fancy "handle bag" capable of handling any product on a moments notice. It can also print it's own labels, including UPCs and PLU numbers. Speed is important in packing and these machines are faster than comparable packing equipment. Faster packing means lower costs for customers. Another important cost is labour. Martin's equipment uses 20-30 percent less labour, making it more efficient.
